THE “underwhelming” Autumn Statement revealed workers can expect to be paid an average of £1,000 less a year in 2020 than previously predicted, the TUC said.
New data from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) shows pay would fall short of government Budget estimations from earlier this year because wages have not risen to 2007 levels when compared to rising living costs.
TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady said: “This is yet another blow to ordinary working people’s standard of living.
“And far from being focused on ‘just about managing’ families. The government’s plans are inadequate.
The decision to abandon the needs of frontline workers and the low-paid shows that plans written up by the Tories all come down to a “political choice,” she said.
“The Autumn Statement was an underwhelming package that does not do enough to support working people now or prepare for a prosperous future outside the EU.”
