Glastonbury organisers pledge to keep site fracking-free

GLASTONBURY festival organisers have made a pledge to keep their site free of fracking as final preparations for this year’s event are carried out.

Michael Eavis, who has hosted the famous festival at his Somerset dairy farm since 1970, proclaimed that his land would “never be fracked.”

Mr Eavis and his daughter Emily have both signed a declaration pledging the site will remain a “frack-free zone,” adding that investment should instead be made in renewable resources.

They are the latest high-profile figures to voice their opposition to the controversial topic of “fracking” for shale gas, which has taken centre stage in a debate over energy, the environment and local communities’ right to decide what happens on their doorstep.

Greenpeace UK executive director John Sauven said: “We salute Michael and Emily’s determination to protect a site which means so much to so many people and keep it frack-free and Not For Shale.”
