CUBANS will celebrate the life of revolutionary leader Fidel Castro at a memorial service in Santiago de Cuba today.
Santiago was the birthplace of the communist revolution that swept away US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959, clearing the island of bosses and foreign gangsters to build socialism.
Tens of thousands have walked the route of Castro’s ashes, retracing in reverse his triumphant march on Havana, waving flags and holding aloft pictures of “El Comandante.”
