REPRODUCTIVE rights campaigners welcomed trade union backing yesterday for their campaign to legalise abortion in Northern Ireland.
Alliance for Choice said it was “delighted” by the unanimous assent for a Unison-sponsored motion at the Irish Congress of Trade Unions Northern Irish Committee.
The motion in support of the Trust Women campaign followed the three-month suspended sentence handed down to a woman for buying miscarriage-inducing drugs online.
“It is gratifying to have the unanimous endorsement of the trade union movement in Northern Ireland, recognising that this is an issue of women’s rights, workers’ rights, human rights and class discrimination,” said Alliance for Choice.
