James, I always knew you were a shoegaze fan.” Ulp. Busted. 

I’m at a converted railway station in east London, having just watched the triumphantly reformed Lush, who hadn’t played live for 20 years.

They split for a tragic reason — the suicide of drummer Chris Acland in 1996. They didn’t announce their split for another two years but as far as singer and guitarist Miki Berenyi was concerned, it was over.
