by Our Foreign Desk

GREEK coastguards said yesterday that 25 more refugees had drowned after a people-trafficking boat capsized in the Aegean Sea near Turkey.

Ten children were among the dead — five girls and five boys — while 10 men and five women also died in the disaster near the island of Samos, a mile from the Turkish coast.

  • Swedish Interior Minister Anders Ygeman warned yesterday his country could deport between 60,000 and 80,000 asylum-seekers in the coming years.Mr Ygeman told the Dagens Industri newspaper that, since about 45 per cent of asylum applications are currently rejected, the country must prepare to send back thousands of the 163,000 people who sought shelter in Sweden last year.
