Pressure builds on Tory MPs to rebel
McDonnell praises constituencies’ grassroots resistance to cuts

LABOUR will keep pushing Tory MPs to rebel if a George Osborne U-turn on tax-credits means cuts elsewhere, John McDonnell has said in an interview with the Star.

The Chancellor was forced to put plans to slash about £1,300 from the pockets of working families on hold last month when the House of Lords put an almost unprecedented block on his proposals for cuts to tax credits.

But as he prepared to return to the Commons with a compromise blueprint, his Labour counterpart told the people’s paper that the party would only accept “a full reversal and a fair reversal.”
