SOUTH AFRICAN President Jacob Zuma faced a tense meeting with disgruntled veterans of his ruling ANC yesterday.
The 106 “stalwarts” were expected to present a manifesto, For The Sake Of Our Future, at the meeting with the liberation movement’s national working committee led by Mr Zuma himself.
They are concerned abut allegations of government corruption and “state capture” by the wealthy Gupta family, who were forced to sell their holdings earlier this year through a bankers’ boycott.
Among their demands are a special “consultative conference” next year — in addition to the June policy conference and December elective conference.
On Saturday South African Communist Party (SACP) second-deputy general secretary Solly Mapaila urged members at a memorial lecture for late Gauteng provincial chairman Nkosiphendule Kolisile to consider their support for Mr Zuma.
“If we aren’t sure, we must go back to the drawing board,” he said.
