Rivington leaves sour taste as firm shuts doors

RIVINGTON Biscuits, the maker of Pink Panther wafers, announced it has gone into administration yesterday with up to 100 employees made redundant.

The biscuit factory, based in Wigan, blamed the decline in trading conditions over the past year as well as the fall in the pound in the wake of the June referendum vote for the news.

The post-Brexit slump in the pound hit Rivington Biscuits hard as it pushed up prices of its ingredients.

Administrators FRP Advisory were appointed for the winding down process.

An FRP spokesman said: “The company was left with no viable alternative other than to seek the protection of administration while a long-term solution can be explored.”

Only 24 of the company’s 123 workers will be kept on while Rivington Biscuits seeks a new buyer.

They will continue to fulfil orders into the new year.
