South Korean President Park wriggles to avoid impeachment

SOUTH KOREA’S beleaguered president made a new bid yesterday to escape a humiliating impeachment vote set for Friday.

After a meeting with scandal-ridden Park Geun Hye, right-wing Saenuri party parliamentary leader Chung Jin Suk said that the president was ready to accept an earlier offer, since withdrawn, to let her resign in April.

That would pave the way for an early presidential election in June.
