Facility time petition hits 200 names

A PETITION calling on a Tory-led council to reverse its decision to end paid time allocated to union representatives to help members yesterday reached 200 signatures.

Public-sector union Unison accused Portsmouth City Council of an “unprovoked attack” on staff members after a plan to completely cut paid facility time was revealed.

It shows the Tories aim to force through elements of the draconian Trade Union Bill before it has passed through Parliament, Unison added.

Union reps use the time to help members with grievances.

Unison regional organiser James Smith said: “The failure of the council’s elected leadership to consult with staff trade unions on this matter speaks volumes of their limited understanding of industrial relations.”
