THICK Of It star Rebecca Front will stand united with a 10-year-old library campaigner as they take part in the Children’s March for Libraries next week.
The Bafta-award winning actress and author joins child campaigner Ralph Vincent, a pupil at All Saints School in Whetstone, who will start the march from a London library threatened with closure.
Libraries across Britain face closure due to severe local authority budget cuts, crippling key services for children and adults.
In Barnet, where the demonstration is taking place, the libraries targeted for closure are seeing a 20 per cent average increase in use by children.
Ms Front said: “It’s a pretty obvious equation to me. Children reading books is a good thing. Children being denied free access to books is therefore a bad thing and needs to be stopped — in Barnet or wherever it’s happening.”
The march on Saturday September 12 starts at 10.15am from East Finchley library in the High Road.
Ralph said: “I really like libraries because you can read books you want to read for free. Books are humongously important to me.”
