WORKERS in five out of six public-sector jobs in London are so badly paid that they can afford only a third of a house in England, property market statistics revealed yesterday.

The earnings of a healthcare assistant (HCA) would fall 66 per cent short of a house costing £224,731, the average price tag across all regions except the capital. This is according to website SellHouseFast.

HCAs would be able to afford just 38 per cent of a typical house in most English towns and cities.
