Glasgow to host Benn gig

The life and work of Tony Benn are to be celebrated at a concert in Glasgow, trade unionists revealed yesterday.

Scottish Parliament member Neil Findlay, who is part of the group established to support and promote the event, said: “A number of our major trade unions felt it was important that a campaigner like Tony, who had strong links with Scotland, should be recognised and remembered here.

“We’re delighted to have the support of the Benn family for the event.”

The celebration will include a concert featuring Rab Noakes, Chris Difford, folk legend Roy Bailey, Karen Matheson, Donald Shaw, James Grant, Arthur Johnstone and Alastair McDonald.

It is being supported by train drivers’ union Aslef, general union GMB, public-service union Unison and Unite and will take place at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on November 30.
