Amir Khan told Kell Brook yesterday he must wait for a domestic superfight as he continues to target a showdown with Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao.
Khan is set to name his next opponent in the coming days with pressure building on him to face Brook, who defended his IBF welterweight title in impressive style on Saturday with a fourth-round stoppage of Jo Jo Dan.
While Khan is open to a clash in the future, he still has his sights set on Mayweather or Pacquiao, who lock horns in Las Vegas on May 2.
“I’d love to fight Kell Brook because it could be his last fight — I’d give him so much of a beating that it could end up being his last fight,” Khan said. “But it’s all about timing. If I’ve got a different route and I want to face the likes of Mayweather or Pacquiao out there — Kell Brook will have to wait.’’
Brook called out Khan after dismantling Romanian challenger Dan at a sold-out Motorpoint Arena in his native Sheffield, with his promoter Eddie Hearn adding that Wembley was free for the pair on June 13.
“Amir seems to have this thing in his head about Kell not respecting him,” said Hearn. “Kell doesn’t want to respect him — he wants to knock him out. Kell doesn’t like him. It’s quite simple.”
