South Africa: Zuma accused of ‘state capture’

SOUTH AFRICA’S ombudsman dropped her latest attack on the ANC government yesterday on her last day in the job.

Thuli Madonsela put the boot in one last time with her interim report on alleged “state capture” by the wealthy Indian Gupta family.

The outgoing ombudsman claims that President Jacob Zuma applied for a court order to stop its publication resulting in the release of the report being postponed.

Her investigation into dismissals and appointments of cabinet ministers has been backed by billionaire Johann Rupert and opposition parties the Democratic Alliance (DA) and ANC splits the EFF and COPE.

Ms Madonsela was criticised last year for releasing a report into “security upgrades,” including a swimming pool at Mr Zuma’s home straight to the media instead of to parliament as required.

The Black Land First (BLF) movement has urged Ms Madonsela to investigate Mr Rupert for “state capture” himself after he led a media campaign to reverse December’s appointment of David Van Rooyen as finance minister.

“Sources” quoted by the BLF have claimed Ms Madonsela will be rewarded for her constant attacks on the ANC by being made the DA’s candidate in the 2019 elections.
