NATIONAL Pensioners Convention (NPC) national officer Neil Duncan-Jordan called for care systems to be brought into public ownership yesterday, telling reps at the train drivers’ union Aslef it would offer dignity in retirement.
Mr Duncan-Jordan spoke of NPC founder and committed union leader Jack Jones as a man “who felt that if men and women need the protection of a trade union when they are in a job, and they do, then they need the protection of a trade union when they are retired,” he said.
Mr Duncan-Jordan added: “Right-wing think tanks say pensioners are getting something for nothing. That’s not true. Pensioners have paid in, one way or another, for what they get out.
