South Korean President Park Geun Hye accepted her prime minister’s resignation over the government’s handling of the deadly ferry sinking yesterday.

Prime Minister Chung Hong Won’s resignation statement blamed “deep-rooted evils in society” for a tragedy that left more than 300 people dead or missing.

Most of them were high-school students on a school trip. Officials have taken into custody all 15 people involved in navigating the ferry that sank on April 16.
