Rail engineering workers in Doncaster announced yesterday that they will strike for a week over pay and conditions.
Transport union RMT members voted overwhelmingly for strike action and will walk out at one minute after midnight on Monday for five days.
They are employed by US transnational Wabtec maintaining, overhauling and refurbishing rail fleets.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said the “essential” workers should at least expect a pay rise that reflects their commitment to the company.
“After all, it is the staff that generate the company profits for this large US engineering outfit.
“The Doncaster engineering works is part of the history and fabric of the railways in Britain and the engineers working on the site play a crucial role in keeping our trains rolling.”
