DODGY David Cameron failed his own phoney family-friendly test yesterday when a new study showed Tory cuts hitting parents and kids harder than anyone else.

Four days ago the Prime Minister boasted how the “caring” Conservatives planned to check every policy to take into account their impact on families.

In a speech to GPs the millionaire alleged he was committed “to do everything we can to support family life.”

But a Trade Union Congress analysis of his party’s policies to date has shredded that claim.

It found that the “nasty” party’s social security cuts and payment freezes targeted working parents and their children more than anyone else — with ministers’ smash-and-grab policies set to snatch £11.7 billion a year by 2016.

That’s around £6,150 apiece for each of Britain’s 1.9 million working families.

Added to the £2.3bn pilfered from the pockets of jobless parents the Tory “tax” on having children is heading for £14.1bn a year.

Pensioners have also been heavily targeted despite Mr Cameron’s personal pre-election pledge to protect their benefits.

In fact the Tories are on course to dip into retired people’s pockets to the tune of £6.4bn annually thanks largely to university chum Chancellor George Osborne’s 2010 “stealth cut” which hitched rises in benefit payouts to the CPI-inflation measure instead of the higher RPI index.

Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith’s bungled universal credit scam is expected to grab another £5bn from the long-suffering public — half of that amount hitting pensioner families.

TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady challenged the PM yesterday to come clean on the true impact of his party’s policies.

“Ministers like to say that their welfare reforms target workshy scroungers and will get them back to work,” she said.

“But the fact is that the bulk of the cuts hit low-paid families already in work, as well as pensioners who have no way to make up the money lost as a result of the Chancellor’s social security axe.

“With nearly half the total cost of welfare changes falling on working families with children, the Prime Minister has already failed his own new family test, announced just this week.”
