IT WAS a night of redemption on Wednesday for Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko, as Tottenham ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Hull.
Wanyama made up for his clear-cut miss against Manchester United on Sunday by getting on the scoresheet at White Hart Lane, while Sissoko continued his fine form from Sunday into this game.
Sissoko has come into plenty of criticism since his £30 million move from Newcastle on deadline day but feels he is finally starting to find his feet.
“It wasn’t easy [moving from Newcastle],” he said. “A lot of things had happened. I signed on [deadline] day and didn’t have [any] preparation [in a new system]. I need to work a lot on that.
“I spoke with the manager and we try to work very well at training. He is good for me, so I played and I did well I think.”
Sissoko didn’t play his usual wide position but showed signs of greatness in parts. He added: “The manager decided to change the system and it was good for me and for the team, we won the game so that is perfect.”
Christian Eriksen bagged a brace and is thriving in the various formations under manager Mauricio Pochettino, who made two changes to the starting line-up from the weekend.
Spurs began the game in a 3-4-2-1 to get the best out of full backs Danny Rose and Kyle Walker.
“This season we are working hard to develop formations,” Pochettino insisted when explaining his change of system.
The Spurs manager wanted to allow both Walker and Rose to push on to give an attacking option going forward and it worked to perfection, with Hull finding it difficult to get out of their own half.
