India: Hyderabad rocked by student’s suicide

HUNDREDS protested at India’s Hyderabad University yesterday over the suicide of a low-caste student whose financial support was withdrawn because of his political activities.

The demonstrations drew nationwide attention, with TV channels running updates throughout the morning.

Students boycotted their classes and held a sit-in in the university. “We want justice,” they shouted as scores of police stood by.
