Everton 1-2 Leicester by James Nalton at Goodison Park

EVERTON manager Ronald Koeman is seeking new recruits in the January transfer window following his side’s third-round FA Cup exit at the hands of Leicester City.

Everton went ahead through a Romelu Lukaku tap-in which was made possible by incisive work on the right flank from substitute Gerard Deulofeu.

The lead was short-lived, however, and just minutes later Ahmed Musa levelled the scores before going on to score the winner.

Toffees boss Koeman is now looking to strengthen his side, and believes the current squad isn’t strong enough to reach the club’s targets.

“I know what is needed to change,” said the Dutchman. “If everybody opened his eyes maybe we will get further in our improvement because that is what this team needs.”

Koeman changed his team’s tactics at half time, which included the introduction of Deulofeu who replaced Mason Holgate as the side switched from 4-4-2 to 4-2-3-1.

It paid immediate dividends as Lukaku scored, but then it also gave Leicester winger Demarai Gray more space to run at the Everton back line.

Defence could be one area he’s looking to strengthen, and this may come in the form of defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin whom he managed at Southampton and is now out of favour at Manchester United.

He might look to take another player from United in the form of Memphis Depay, who would be an ideal replacement for the injured Yannick Bolasie.

“I have that in mind and the board knows because we speak together about what we and the team needs and that is the job of [director of football] Steve Walsh.

“I hope everybody realises what the team needs to get results that are the expectation of this football club. I can explain more but I don’t like to because that’s really talks we need to do internally.”

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri, meanwhile, was pleased with two of his own new acquisitions, with summer signing Musa beginning to settle.

“Musa was excellent. I’ve watched him recently and think he is starting to understand English football better.”
