JULIAN ASSANGE was questioned yesterday by Swedish prosecutors inside the Ecuadorean embassy in London over a rape allegation.
Sweden’s chief prosecutor Ingrid Isgren and a colleague interviewed the WikiLeaks founder at the embassy in Knightsbridge, where he has been living for more than four years after claiming political asylum there.
Mr Assange rejects the allegation that he raped a woman in Sweden in 2010.
He believes that if he leaves the embassy, he will be extradited to the US to face punishment over the activities of WikiLeaks.
As the interview with two Swedish officials got under way in the presence of his lawyer, Mr Assange’s cat sat in a window dressed in a striped tie and collar while the press gathered outside.
The questioning could take up to three days in total.
A small group of supporters stood opposite the embassy and held up banners calling for the charges against Mr Assange to be dropped.
