Electric charge from a live wire
Poet SALENA GODDEN is a class act live and her books and debut album show why she’s one of the best on the circuit, writes Tim Wells

EARLIER this month Salena Godden launched her debut album LIVEwire and, like Ron Jeremy, it’s taken a long time coming.

The rock magazine Kerrang said that she’s “everything the Daily Mail hates.” Indeed, that she’s black, female and licentious will ire the Daily Heil but it’s the fact that she’s also intelligent, funny and engaging that really gets them hot under the starched white collar.

Godden’s written My Tits Are More Feminist Than Your Tits, one of the best political poems of the last few years and it’s, rightly, a live favourite.

  • Salena Godden’s album LIVEwire is available from www.nymphsandthugs.net, an independent spoken-word label.
