South Korea: MPs accuse Park of violating the constitution

PROSECUTING MPs accused South Korean President Park Geun Hye of violating the constitution as the Constitutional Court began hearing oral arguments yesterday in her impeachment trial.

National Assembly member Kweon Seong Dong said Ms Park had abused her position by “broadly and gravely” violating the constitution to commit corruption and turn state affairs into a profit-making tool for her friend Choi Soon Sil.

One of Ms Park’s lawyers, Seo Seok Gu, alleged that her prosecution was biased and that weeks of mass protests before the impeachment vote had been influenced by groups sympathetic to North Korea.
