Call centres face closure so jobs can go cheap

OPERATOR Webhelp is set to close two call centres in north-west England, ditching 700 workers and transferring their jobs to South Africa, bosses revealed yesterday.

Webhelp runs the call centres at Aintree and Bolton for Shop Direct, which owns the Very and Littlewoods brands.

The company said the closures are due to customers preferring online shopping rather than ringing call centres.
