Westbrook’s show of ensemble strength

A Bigger Show
Kings Place, London N1
4/5

WHATEVER the shape of a Mike Westbrook formation, the sonic sparks always resound.

Previous incarnations include the duo with his partner, singer and lyricist Kate, the trio with her and saxophonist Chris Biscoe, the pit band of 1971 which accompanied Adrian Mitchell’s Tyger, his play about William Blake, and the adaptation of a Salvation Army ensemble, the long-remembered Mike Westbrook Brass Band with the wonderful Paul Rutherford on a very red trombone.
