UNITE is calling for union representation for more than 1,000 workers at a Yorkshire warehouse severely damaged by fire.
Arson is being blamed for a blaze which tore through four stories of the Asos clothing distribution warehouse at Grimethorpe, near Barnsley, late on Friday.
The distribution operation is carried out by Norbert Dentressangle, employing 1,200 workers.
Unite says the firm has refused the union access to the workforce.
Regional officer Richard Bedford said: “Thankfully no one was injured during the incident but one of the prime functions of a trade union is the promotion of health and safety issues.
“The Barnsley management at Norbert Dentressangle has refused for the last 12 months to allow Unite access to the workforce, despite the fact that this trans-European company has recognition agreements with Unite at other UK sites.
“We hope that this fire will cause the management to have a rethink.”
