Co-operative school models are being adopted in an effort to fend off the worst excesses of the academy system, delegates heard on Saturday.
Schools Co-operative Society chief executive Dave Boston said: “The co-op model is about protecting schools that provide a good service.” He told delegates the model was catching on because it made schools locally accountable, kept assets within the community and ensured staff and parents had a voice.
There are 572 co-op schools in Britain, 85 partner schools and 130 schools in consultation.
