US armada arrival adds to paranoia in Pyongyang

US NAVY ships crowded the Korean peninsula yesterday but Pyongyang did not rise to the bait.

South Korean Defence Ministry predictions that the North would mark its armed forces day with a “strategic provocation” — a nuclear or ballistic missile test — proved premature.

But it reported that Pyongyang had held major live-fire manoeuvres near the eastern coastal town of Wonsan.
