LUKE AKEHURST, the Secretary of Labour First, the most muscular of right-wing factions in the Labour Party, is known for stirring controversy on social media, especially in his day job as cheerleader for Israeli aggression.

But Akehurst’s ahistorical charges, mostly myths usually perpetuated by racists, empire loyalists and anti-communist fanatics, have taken a heavy trashing of one-line responses. Here’s more ammo.

MYTH 1: “Attlee crushed Communist rebels in Malaya to stop it becoming Communist.”

MYTH 2: “The war was nothing to do with keeping Malaya in the empire.”

MYTH 3: “Aneurin Bevan as a Cabinet minister supported this war.”

MYTH 4: “There’s nothing ignoble about fighting communism.”

MYTH 5: “Labour was against the empire.”
