Racing A classic race at Warwick this afternoon

The Star's tipster FARRINGDON casts his eye over the weekend's horse racing action

STAMINA will be at a premium this afternoon with the 3m5f Warwick Classic Chase (3.35) the betting highlight as 15 lung-busters go to post.

Easy Bangor winner Sir Mangan looks likely to start favourite over “Hennessy” sixth Missed Approach. The former will have to shoulder a 4lbs penalty, but he looks unexposed over this trip and is preferred to his downgraded rival.

However, both may have to give way to Welsh National casualty On the Road trained by Evan Williams.

This lightly raced eight-year-old was well fancied for the Chepstow contest last week but never had a chance to show his staying prowess, coming to grief at the fourth. He gets to race off the same mark here of 130 and is bred to stay well and is worthy of an each-way play off a fair racing weight.

Apart from the market leaders, Krackatoa King, third in this two years ago, and Last Fling Chase winner Emperor’s Choice, another not to complete the distance in the Welsh feature seven days ago, have each-way claims.

Earlier on at 3.00, the Grade Two Leamington Spa Novices Hurdle could go to the lightly raced Paisley Park.

From the in-form Emma Lavelle yard, this son of Oscar is all about stamina following a seven-length success at Hereford.

Of course, this is a severe step up in class for the selection, but his grinding style will be well suited to this event and he gets the value vote over the likes of Knight in Dubai and recent Newbury winner Mr Whipped.

The Lanzarote Hurdle headlines a cracking card at Kempton Park and there are several unexposed performers that look potentially well handicapped including Spiritofthegames, Diese Des Bieffes and Topofthegame. However, all three could be eclipsed by Red Indian (nb).

The Ben Pauling charge has run two solid races this term, the latter at Cheltenham where he was momentarily outpaced coming down the hill before staying on strongly in the final quarter-mile. There is sure to be a stronger pace on here and that should suit him down to the ground.

The Listed 32Red Casino Chase at 2.05 over two-and-a-half miles could go to the upwardly mobile Waiting Patiently, while Redicean can make the most of the 6lbs he receives from Gumball in the opening novice hurdle at 12.20.

On the level, I expect a huge run from Narjes who can bounce back to winning form in the fillies’ handicap at 12.50 at Lingfield and I also fancy Reckless Endeavour (nap) in the big sprint handicap at 1.25.

Nicely boxed in stall number one, the top weight didn’t get the best of runs in the middle of the race last time out and is potentially better than that run suggests and gets the nod over the second that day, Kasbah.

Finally, have a look at the evening card at Wolverhampton where the veteran Chelwood Gate could go close at a price in the opener at 5.45, while Miss Dusky Diva Has solid claims off top weight in the staying event at 6.45.

The last named suffered an unfortunate tumble last time out, but as long as she has got over that fall, she has very solid claims in what looks a pretty moderate two-mile event.
