Women's Football Arsenal Women 3-1 Bristol City Women

Report by Layth Yousif at Meadow Park

STINA BLACKSTENIUS grabbed a late strike to seal Arsenal’s 3-1 triumph against Bristol City in the Women’s League Cup.

At Meadow Park on Thursday evening Frida Maanum fired home off the bar to put the home side 1-0 ahead on 27 minutes, prior to Lotte Wubben-Moy’s doubling the lead nine minutes later.

Sille Struck grabbed a consolation for City with 18 minutes remaining, but substitute Blackstenius struck with a late goal for the second game in a row, to ensure the holders got off to a winning start.

In further good news for Jonas Eidevall’s side, Beth Mead started the match, providing an assist for Maanum’s opener during her hour on the pitch.

Vivianne Miedema received the biggest cheer of the night when the Dutch attacker made an appearance of the bench, as both world-class stars work back to full fitness after recovering from ACL injuries.
