Chris Williamson meets with Socialist Labour Party to discuss working class solidarity

FORMER MP CHRIS WILLIAMSON and Dave Roberts from the Resistance Movement organisation have met with the Socialist Labour Party’s Arthur Scargill and Ken Capstick to discuss joint action.

Mr Williamson has helped found the Resistance Movement in response to last year’s general election defeat and “the dismantling of the Corbyn project within the Labour Party.”

Mr Williamson said: “We had a wide-ranging discussion, including solutions to the ongoing economic, environmental and social challenges facing the country and the crucial importance of working-class solidarity.

“British democracy isn’t functioning. The major political parties are essentially two sides of the same coin and Parliament is overrun with establishment lackeys.”

Mr Williamson it is therefore“critically important” to build a political alternative, including extra-parliamentary activities, because millions of voters “have given up on existing mainstream party politics.

“With over 15.5 million people not bothering to vote at the last election, it’s obvious that dissatisfaction with the political and economic status quo is growing,” he said.

“So there is clearly potential for an insurgent movement with a political programme that addresses public need.”
