500 more jobs to go overseas at Nestle, unions warn
NESTLE’S production of Fruit Pastilles, Toffee Crisp and Smarties mini eggs is set to be outsourced overseas, with the loss of nearly 500 jobs, unions warned yesterday.
The confectionery giant has confirmed plans to shut down its factory in Fawdon, near Newcastle, at the end of 2023 — with 474 positions being axed.
Fruit Pastilles and Jelly Tots will then be made in the Czech Republic, Toffee Crisps in Poland, and Smarties mini eggs in Bulgaria.
