DIRECT action housing campaign group Acorn is to target an alleged “rogue” landlady tomorrow in protest against evictions of tenants after they asked for essential repairs to be carried out.
Acorn said that the tenants of a flat in Bristol, including a disabled person, asked for repairs when mushrooms began growing on the carpet in the flat because it was so damp.
They also wanted repairs to jammed windows and an oven that had been broken for four months.
Landlady Shabana Kausar issued the eviction notice immediately after the government lifted its regulation protecting tenants and banning evictions during the coronavirus pandemic.
Acorn will protest outside Ms Kausar’s upmarket apartment building in London’s Docklands tomorrow to demand that she meet the tenants.
In a joint statement, the two tenants in Bristol said: “Since we’ve moved in we had problems with repairs and were treated as troublemakers for asking for things to be fixed.”
The demonstration takes place at 2pm, outside 18 Western Gateway E16 1BQ.
