Activists found not guilty after shutting down factory owned by Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer

TWO pro-Palestinian activists have been found not guilty of obstruction of the highway after forcing the closure of a factory owned by Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer.

Iola Davies, 73, of Littlehampton, West Sussex, and Jasmine Murphy, 23, of Sheffield, were cleared by District Judge Kevin Grego on Wednesday following a two-day trial at Walsall magistrates’ court.

They locked themselves onto vehicles, each blocking the two entrances of UAV Engines Ltd, forcing the site in Shenstone, owned by Elbit Systems, to close on September 9 last year.

Earlier today, Palestine Action campaign group said the judge’s ruling was based “on the principle of proportionality … as the judge found their action was proportionate in comparison to the crimes against humanity which they were acting to stop.”

A spokesman for the group said the site “specialises in making engines for combat drones, which Elbit openly market as ‘battle-tested’ on the Palestinian population.”
