ANTI-ARMS campaigners are waiting to hear from the High Court on their challenge of the government’s decision to renew arms exports to Saudi Arabia as its war on Yemen hits its ninth year.
The Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) has brought on a second judicial review following a successful case in 2019 temporarily halting arms exports and military support to the kingdom and its allies.
Katie Fallon of CAAT said called Britain’s role in Yemen a “dark stain on the legacy of UK foreign policy.”
She said: “The conflict and the Yemeni people have been ignored to serve vested interests: namely to sustain arms sales to the UK’s biggest customer and to maintain the illusion that an alliance with a murderous authoritarian regime upholds global security.
“CAAT and its supporters await with anticipation the High Court’s judgement.
“The people of Yemen deserve justice for the violations they have endured, and it is our responsibility to do everything in our power to hold the UK government accountable for its actions.”
The judgement is expected at any time before July.
