ICE cream giant Ben & Jerry’s have teamed up with a group of asylum-seekers to deliver an “alternative” advent calendar to Suella Braverman.
Instead of chocolate treats, each door has behind it the “hopes and dreams” of refugees and migrants in a bid to “inspire the Home Secretary to adopt a more compassionate approach” and ditch the Rwanda policy.
The calendar was created in response to Ms Braverman’s infamous comments earlier this year in which she said it was her “dream and obsession” to deport refugees to Rwanda, organisers of the symbolic protest said.
If the Home Secretary were to open the first door she would read Lydia’s dream, which says: “My dream is for all refugee children fleeing persecution and danger to find comfort and warmth when they arrive.”
Mishka, spokesperson for refugee campaign group One Strong Voice, said the network’s collaboration with Ben & Jerry’s was intended “to call attention to the ongoing stark realities that people seeking asylum are facing.”
Ben & Jerry’s activism manager Cat Baron said: “Sometimes, it’s easier to talk about difficult issues in a digestible way, and this advent calendar intends to do just that.”
