‘Ay up! Pay up!,’ striking Yorkshire teachers say

STRIKING teachers in Yorkshire gave their action a regional touch as they chanted “ay up! pay up!” yesterday.

The National Education Union (NEU) strikers rallied at Wakefield city’s famed Red Shed Labour Club after picketing local schools.

NEU Yorkshire regional secretary Sally Kincaid said some school authorities were attempting to undermine the strike by using supply teachers — temporary staff from profiteering agencies.
