Tributes flood in for Diane Abbott as she marks 33 years as an MP

TRIBUTES to Diane Abbott flooded social media today on the 33rd anniversary of her election to Parliament, when she became Britain’s first black woman MP.

Ms Abbott was elected MP for Hackney North in 1987 and has since served in four shadow cabinets, most recently as home secretary.

Her unwavering support for socialism and campaigns for equal and civil rights were yesterday celebrated by her fellow MPs.
