Education workers strike against pay cuts at 10 Scottish local authorities councils

EDUCATION workers at 10 Scottish local authorities councils will strike next month in a bid to halt pay cuts amid a deepening council crisis north of the border, their union said today.

Members of GMB, which represents catering staff, janitors, cleaners and support workers in council-run schools and nurseries, will walk out on September 13 and 14 after workers voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action earlier this month.

The strike is the latest development in a succession of Scottish council pay disputes over the last two years.
