Firefighters donate fire engine to Palestine

FIREFIGHTERS have donated a fire engine to their colleagues in Palestine for the third time in a year.

It is the latest act of solidarity by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in a relationship that has also seen hundreds of Palestinian firefighters trained in Scotland and firefighting kits sent to Nablus, Jericho, Ramallah, East Jerusalem and Hebron.

Ian Morris of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: “The Scottish Fire and rescue service will always look to share, where we can, surplus or reusable assets and equipment to aid the work of fire services around the world to support our international firefighter colleagues as part of our humanitarian work.”

The union’s Jim Malone said: “The FBU in partnership with SFRS and Scottish government delivered training to over 100 Palestinian comrades in Scotland.

“We hope the latest project will see Palestinian firefighters deliver improved fire cover to their communities under illegal apartheid occupation.”
