Labour Party Conference ’19 Impressions from conference

Anne Dean: Cathcart CLP (Glasgow)

“What happened yesterday was historic. I’ll be, hopefully, telling my grandchildren about it in the future.

“The emotion was palpable. Jeremy has always been inspiring. His words have always been very clear to me.

“I’ve met so many good people. Everybody is on board. I haven’t heard anybody in the last four or five days say anything negative. Everybody’s been so positive.”

Charlotte Childs: Hull West & Hessle CLP

“Conference has been really good. I think the radical and socialist policies that have been put forward by Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell and the rest of his shadow cabinet is exactly what the country needs.

“I think the end of the austerity-lite Labour Party policies and an actual solution to some of the major issues that we’re facing in this country is what we need to go into a general election to be able to give society a real choice between austerity and big banks and corruption, and socialist policies that are going to work for the many, not the few.”

Shebul Khan: Poplar & Limehouse CLP

“The Labour Party has started listening again. I think Corbyn’s message yesterday was about that and I think that’s resonated with the membership.

“Going forward, resuming Parliament today, we’re going to have that unity and we’re going to work together.

“Whether you’re from the centre, left, or right of the party, whether you’re in Progress or Momentum, we should all go out and win these seats and kick the Tories out.”

Lesley Curtis: Greenwich CLP

“Conference has been really interesting. Especially with what happened yesterday with the government, the proroguing and everything. It was fascinating to be here.

“Luckily, we saw the leader’s speech. I thought it was brilliant.

“The media keeps reporting that the Labour Party is split but, from what I’ve seen at conference, I don’t think it is at all.

“We need more media that is pro-Jeremy Corbyn and pro-Labour Party to get that message out there.”
