JUST STOP OIL activists covered the Madame Tussauds waxwork model of King Charles III with chocolate cake today to highlight Tory government plans to grant new fossil fuel drilling licences.
Eilidh McFadden and Tom Johnson stepped over a rope barrier at the world-famous central London tourist attraction just after 10.30am to carry out the latest in a series of dramatic protests.
In recent weeks, the environmental campaign group has blocked roads and thrown soup at the glass covering Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers painting in the capital’s National Gallery.
Ms McFadden, 20, and Mr Johnson, 29, from Glasgow and Sunderland respectively, said that they wanted to “protect our freedoms and rights.”
They added: “We seek to protect this green and pleasant land, which is the inheritance of us all.”
The protest took place ahead of the United Nations Cop27 environmental summit in Egypt next month.
Charles Windsor had agreed to attend before the death of the queen in September but will now stay away following government advice.
Just Stop Oil voted to continue its peaceful protests against proposals by ministers to authorise more than 100 new oil and gas projects by 2025.
