Just Stop oil protesters block Green Lanes in latest slow march action

CLIMATE protesters continued their slow march action to stop traffic towards central London today to demand the government ends all new fossil fuel licences.

Just Stop Oil supporters wearing high-vis vests walked onto Green Lanes, Finsbury Park, accompanied by police officers.

Activist Sheila Shatford, a 67-year-old grandmother and former nurse, took part in the action despite already spending 13 days in prison for non-violent disruptions.

She said: “I have a responsibility… to stand beside all the brave young people who are prepared to put their careers and freedom on the line to stop the wanton destruction of their future and the misery and suffering happening right now as a result of climate breakdown.

“Shame on you [PM Rishi Sunak] for allowing your government to support oil and gas expansion, shame on you for allowing a new coalmine that nobody wants or needs.

“Shame on you for demonising peaceful people. You can ban us, revile us, lock us up but you won’t stop us.”

The group has previously disrupted the M25 and other major highways.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley told the home affairs committee today that he is “completely up for” ignoring protesters who disrupt motorways if it was safely possible.
