LABOUR’S left scored huge election victories in London at the party’s regional conference over the weekend.
Supporters of Jeremy Corbyn were elected to nearly every position, with the Centre Left Grassroots Alliance (CLGA) slate winning seven out of eight conference-wide elections and 13 out of 14 available CLP places on the party’s London regional executive.
Unite activist and cabbie Jim Kelly took the chair position, while prominent Haringey councillor Seema Chandwani took the vice-chair.
GMB activist Elly Baker and Unite deputy chief-of-staff Adrian Weir also won the two places to represent London on the National Policy Forum (NPF), which is Labour’s policy formation body.
The electoral victories were matched with gains in progressive policies, with a motion calling for Labour to support the new anti-fascist initiative London United passing overwhelmingly.
A motion by the CWU union calling for local councils to stop awarding contracts to firms reliant on precarious workers was also passed.
