CAMPAIGNERS will host the first bilingual London mayoral debate for Polish residents tonight in a bid to address low voter turnout among the country’s largest non-British community.
London Assembly candidates from all major parties will speak at the unique event, organised by Polish Migrants Organise for Change (POMOC) and New Europeans UK.
Polish residents make up the largest non-British community, but campaigners say they continue to face a lack of representation, barriers to civic participation, low voter turnout and feelings of uncertainty following Brexit.
Organisers hope that events like the hustings, translated live into English and Polish, will lead to greater inclusion.
POMOC said it hopes to build on the “largest surge in Polish activism in decades” triggered by opposition to the eastern European government’s attacks on women’s rights.
Founder of New Europeans Roger Casale said: “The key to building an inclusive community is making sure that everyone has a voice. Hustings are a great way to help achieve this.”
The hustings start at 6.30pm, see mstar.link/PolishHustings.
