Palestine campaigners to hold candle-lit vigil in Oldham

PALESTINE campaigners in Oldham plan to mount a candle-lit vigil on Wednesday in memory of more than 50 journalists killed in Israel’s murderous onslaught on Gaza.

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) reports that at least 58 journalists including 51 in Gaza have been killed since October 7.

Organisers of the vigil in Greater Manchester said: “Israel has banned foreign reporters from entering Gaza and it was left to Palestinian journalists to risk their lives.

“In the West Bank, the use of social media is being increasingly used as a reason to detain and arrest people.

“With the resumption of the killings in Gaza it is more important than ever to keep the focus on what is really happening.”

The vigil is set to take place from 4.30pm to 5.30pm at King Street roundabout in King Street.

The University of Manchester Students Union Assembly will also debate supporting the boycott, divestment and sanction movement against Israel on Wednesday at 1.30pm at the Club Academy.
